In this tournament format, 56 teams first play a group stage in 14 groups. The teams are then divided according to their ranking into final groups of up to eight teams. Within these groups, they continue playing for the individual final positions.

Structure of the final rounds
Each complete group of eight teams plays twelve final-stage matches. The first four matches divide the teams between the subsequent placement matches. Winners and losers then follow separate paths that determine which final positions they contest in their last match.
