How does this tournament format work?
The 30 teams start in 14 groups. Their ranking then determines which final group they enter. As far as possible, the teams are divided into groups of eight, after which cross-over and placement finals determine the final standings.

Structure of the final rounds
The group stage determines which teams meet in the final rounds. A separate final group is formed for every eight teams. Within such a group, every team remains in competition until its definitive final position is known, so all eight places in the group are determined individually.

The final rounds for 30 teams consist of 3 complete groups of eight teams and a remaining group of 6 teams. Each complete group determines eight individual final positions. The format for the last group is adapted to the number of teams remaining.
The final six teams are divided into two groups of three. After the group matches, the two group winners play each other, as do the two second-placed teams and the two third-placed teams. These three placement matches determine the final six positions.
