How does this tournament format work?
This format combines a group stage with extensive placement finals. The 28 teams first play in 1 groups. Based on their finishing position in the group, they are then divided into final groups in which the definitive final standings are decided.

Structure of the final rounds
The ranking in the initial group stage determines the rest of the tournament. Eight teams at a time are brought together in a final group. They then play three further matches, with cross-over and placement matches determining each team's final position.
Final rounds with 28 teams
After the group stage, 24 of the 28 teams are divided into 3 final groups of eight. Each complete final group plays twelve matches. An adapted final stage is used for the remaining 4 teams.
The final four teams play two semi-finals. The winners then play for positions 25 and 26, while the losers play for positions 27 and 28. This determines all four remaining final positions individually.
