Structure of the final rounds

The group stage determines which teams meet in the final rounds. A separate final group is formed for every eight teams. Within such a group, every team remains in competition until its definitive final position is known, so all eight places in the group are determined individually.

Final rounds with 12 teams

All 12 teams can be divided into complete final groups of eight. Therefore, no separate final format is required for remaining teams.
