This tournament format for 62 teams consists of 29 groups followed by cross-over and placement finals. After the group stage, teams with similar rankings are brought together to compete for the different final positions.

Structure of the final rounds
The ranking in the initial group stage determines the rest of the tournament. Eight teams at a time are brought together in a final group. They then play three further matches, with cross-over and placement matches determining each team's final position.
Final rounds with 62 teams
After the group stage, 56 of the 62 teams are divided into 7 final groups of eight. Each complete final group plays twelve matches. An adapted final stage is used for the remaining 6 teams.
The final six teams are divided into two groups of three. After the group matches, the two group winners play each other, as do the two second-placed teams and the two third-placed teams. These three placement matches determine the final six positions.
