Structure of the final rounds
The ranking in the initial group stage determines the rest of the tournament. Eight teams at a time are brought together in a final group. They then play three further matches, with cross-over and placement matches determining each team's final position.

After the group stage, 40 of the 43 teams are divided into 5 final groups of eight. Each complete final group plays twelve matches. An adapted final stage is used for the remaining 3 teams.
