How does this tournament format work?
This format combines a group stage with extensive placement finals. The 52 teams first play in 9 groups. Based on their finishing position in the group, they are then divided into final groups in which the definitive final standings are decided.

Structure of the final rounds
The ranking in the initial group stage determines the rest of the tournament. Eight teams at a time are brought together in a final group. They then play three further matches, with cross-over and placement matches determining each team's final position.
Final rounds with 52 teams
After the group stage, 48 of the 52 teams are divided into 6 final groups of eight. Each complete final group plays twelve matches. An adapted final stage is used for the remaining 4 teams.
The final four teams form a separate final group. Each team plays the other three teams. The final standings in this group determine positions 49 through 52. As a result, these teams play three matches after the initial group stage, just like the teams in a complete final group of eight.
