This format combines a group stage with extensive placement finals. The 12 teams first play in 1 groups. Based on their finishing position in the group, they are then divided into final groups in which the definitive final standings are decided.

Structure of the final rounds
The final stage is structured so that losing a match does not immediately end a team's tournament. After each match, the team continues to another placement match. After three matches, every team in a complete final group of eight has reached its own final position.

The final rounds for 12 teams consist of 1 complete groups of eight teams and a remaining group of 4 teams. Each complete group determines eight individual final positions. The format for the last group is adapted to the number of teams remaining.
The final four teams form a separate final group. Each team plays the other three teams. The final standings in this group determine positions 9 through 12. As a result, these teams play three matches after the initial group stage, just like the teams in a complete final group of eight.
