From Excel sheets to full control
Plácido Lara has organised rugby and beach rugby tournaments with Saskia for years, from a club
tournament at RC Hilversum to international events in Spain. We asked him about his experience,
before and after MyTournament.info. This is his story, in his own words.
Whiteboards and Excel sheets
About 15 years ago I organised TBM days at RC Hilversum. Everything ran on Excel sheets: the
schedule blown up on a whiteboard, a printed sheet for every coach, referees assigned by hand.
And that was just the preparation.
During the few hours the tournament lasted, I had to keep answering questions from people who
wanted to know the results, who wanted to know the standings — and process everything at
the same time.
The step to the Dutch Rugby Federation
That grew even bigger when I started organising 7s tournaments for the Dutch Rugby Federation.
The competition manager at the time knew of an app that could take a lot of work off your hands:
MyTournament.info.
What a difference. Practically everything was taken off my hands. It came in handy for:
- Paastoernooi RC Hilversum
- National Mini days of the Dutch Rugby Federation
- National 7s, both youth and senior, of the Dutch Rugby Federation
- Ameland Beachrugby
- Bingham Cup Amstelveen
- Amsterdam 7s
- Bahia '89 Beachrugby, Algeciras
- Costa Barbarians Beachrugby, Manilva
- A large youth football tournament in Paris — unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid
lockdown, but the tournament was already fully set up in the system
- Touch'n Tulips Touch Rugby Amsterdam
Setting up tournaments and real-time input still took some effort, but a lot was taken care of by
MyTournament.info.
Instead of putting out fires and running behind events …
IN CONTROL with MyTournament.info.
